Professor Frank Guridy, Executive Director and Senior Scholar of The Eric H. Holder Jr. Initiative for Civil and Political Rights, receives praise from The Washington Post on his new book, "The Stadium: An American History of Politics, Protest, and Play."
In the recent article, "This book will make you rethink the purpose of sports stadiums," sports historian and professor Victoria Jackson of Arizona State University describes 'The Stadium' as "thoroughly researched and deeply engaged with the latest academic studies."
Professor Jackson further states that what makes Professor Guridy's book unique is its' focus on the civic role of the stadium. By incorporating examples of freedom rallies at Madison Square Garden and European immigrant communities rallying against fascism and for labor rights at Yankee Stadium, Professor Guridy "strives to ensure that the civic mission of the stadium lives on".
