That Which Remains

On January 18, 2021, as we celebrated the life and work of Martin Luther King Jr., the Holder Initiative launched That Which Remains (TWR), a student-led creative writing publication dedicated to advancing the cause of justice through the arts. TWR provides a platform for conversation, meditation, education, and healing. Through poetry, prose, and visual art, this journal seeks to amplify creative works that unpack the social, political, gender, and racial injustices experienced while living in the United States. Read Volume One here.
This spring, we will publish the second volume of TWR for which we will be accepting submissions of previously unpublished poetry, short fiction, and nonfiction/essays. We believe that sharing diverse voices and perspectives can lead to a better understanding of our individual and collective human experience, one that requires a process of learning and unlearning in hopes of forming radical unity. Therefore, we invite all perspectives, demographics, and walks of life to submit to TWR. We will accept submissions on a rolling basis and strive to provide you with a decision within a month of receiving your submission.

Submission Criteria:

· Prose: No more than 10 pages double-spaced; size 11 font

· Poetry: 3 poems per submissions; no more than 5 pages per poem

· Please include a short bio with your submission.

Send submissions to: twrjournal@gmail.com with "TWR Submission" in the subject line.
