Alex Biederman is a senior at Columbia College from Los Angeles studying Political Science with a Concentration in International Relations and American Politics. His interests include music (blues and jazz) as “politics” in the African-American experience, criminal justice reform, and representation for wrongly convicted felons. In addition to serving on the Student Advisory Board and joining the Research Fellows Program for the Holder Initiative, Alex was Co-Chair of Marketing and Outreach on the University Life Events Leadership Council Team for the 2023-2024 term. In addition, he has served as a Research Assistant in the Columbia University Department of History and is currently studying comparative political economy in Stanford University’s Department of Political Science. His work with the Holder Initiative focuses on the interdisciplinary scholarship of blues, jazz, and politics and its historical and contemporary importance in African-American social movements. In his free time, he loves to play along with B.B. King, Stevie Ray Vaughan, and John Mayer and play shows at venues such as The Mercury Lounge and the Delancey.
