Alex Biederman is a junior at Columbia College from Los Angeles studying Political Science with a Concentration in International Relations and American Politics. His interests include music (blues and jazz) as “politics” in the African-American experience, criminal justice reform, and representation for wrongly convicted felons. In addition to serving on the Student Advisory Board and joining the Research Fellows Program for the Holder Initiative, Alex is Co-Chair of Marketing and Outreach on the University Life Events Leadership Council Team, has served as a Research Assistant in Columbia’s History Department, writes for the comedy magazine the Fed, and serves as a Leadership Council Board Member in UN Columbia. His work with the Holder Initiative focuses on the interdisciplinary scholarship of blues, jazz, and politics and its historical and contemporary importance in African-American social movements. In his free time, he loves to play along with B.B. King, Stevie Ray Vaughan, and John Mayer.
