Ananya Bhatia is a junior at Columbia College majoring in Urban Studies and Political Science. Originally from Shreveport, Louisiana, her interests include public defense, ethnic conflict, and unlawful detention. She serves on the board of the Undergraduate Law Review, is a Saltzman Scholar, works as a Peer Fellow at the Columbia Writing Center, and conducts research at the London School of Economics on gendered policing in India. Ananya’s passion for criminal justice reform began while working at her local juvenile court in high school, and has since taken shape through internships at the Orleans Public Defenders Office and Reprieve. At these organizations, she worked on cases ranging from capital punishment to civilian harm in conflict zones—deepening her commitment to justice both locally and globally.
